GIRL! Thursday night we went for our second 'detailed' ultrasound with an imaging specialist, and after taking every possible measurement of the baby, he determined that we're going to be welcoming a little girl into our home this September!
Susan was audibly excited at the time, and probably a little miffed that I wasn't as verbally excited also. She'd put me under a cloud of suspicion that I've become Arab, only wanted a boy, and would be disappointed if we found out that we were having a girl. I had to reassure her that wasn't the case, and that I'd been put on the spot by her 'what are you hoping that we have?' question. Of course, with only two options, my choices are a bit limited. I really had been holding out hope for a litter of squirrels or puppies, but my wife is a bit of a speciesist, so she'd only agree to carry a human child.
I am a bit scared, though. Boys seem much easier to raise. They're pretty straightforward and I can relate to their preferred methods of play - sports, pirates, guns, etc. Girls...well, I guess that I'm in for an education in the world of fairies, ponies, dress up, and doll houses. I'm going to have to learn how to fix hair and relate through discussion, rather than grunts and car engine sounds. It's going to be much different than the mental picture that I had a few months ago, but I'm up for the challenge.
Tough Milestones

Little girls carry daddy's heart ...remember that! Anyway, who says a little girl can't kick your butt at one of your video games, or sing Wierd Al , or recite Star Wars line...and girls can do anything boys can .... Ask your sister.
ReplyDeleteOn the guns and sounds: when S. plays guns with her boy friends, she actually says "Shoot, shoot" instead of making a shooting noise. :) One advantage of girls...you'll save on food costs in the teen years. R. is eating us out of house and home! It will come more easily than you think, Kyle. I am so excited for you both!!!
