Our Ellen is a rather serious baby. She seems to take after Kyle's Grandpop Davis, with her naturally down-turned lips and wide, staring eyes. These first two pictures are "typical Ellen", the face people in the grocery stores and malls normally see when they glance her way. The clerk at a neighborhood store put it this way: "She has an old soul behind those eyes." Kyle and I chuckled, since we have long since called ourselves Old Souls. After all, we honeymooned in Gatlinburg and spent our time at Dollywood and Dixie Land Stampede (were we the only ones not getting the AARP discount?!). So, it suits us just fine if Ellen is a bit of an old soul, too, at her young age of 4.5 months.
Still, it does warm our hearts when she flashes a smile, a toothless grin, a giggle in response to "tickle time" with Dad. And it's like a miracle when we actually catch one of those smiles and freeze it for eternity on film. Hopefully your heart is warmed, too, by her smiles.
