Yesterday, Ellen turned 3 months old. Both Kyle and I are amazed how quickly that time passed. The first six weeks seemed to never end; once we passed that hump, Thanksgiving and Christmas kept the days ticking by rapidly. We've so enjoyed the chance to share life with family as folks have come to meet Ellen or we've traveled to see them. From Ellen's first flight to Texas where she met Aunt Julie and two of her cousins to road trips to see Nana (Great-grandma Davis) and meet Aunt Mere, to those who drove to see us in Charlottesville: Kyle's folks (Noni & Grandpop) and Susan's Mom (Grandma Lin) and Aunt Amy (and two more cousins) and Susan's Dad & his wife (Grandpa Ron & Grandma Carol). Next up: another flight to Arkansas to meet Great-Grandma Tiny.
Most folks know the top of Ellen's head better than her face--she's always slung, either in the Ergo or the "sunburst" fabric wrap, when we're out and about--but when Ellen is visible, people say she's a serious baby. Thankfully, we know more than her "Grandpop Davis frown face", because we get the pleasure of waking up to her coos, smiles, and bright eyes eagerly taking in her world. She also lights up on her changing table and her belly-time mat, where she's practicing grabbing objects, crawling, and rolling (belly to back: check-check; back to belly: we're working on it). She has started soothing herself to sleep in her crib for naps, loves sucking on her fingers, one fistful at a time, prefers being held upright where she can see all that's going on, and is the delight of her mom and dad (and her grandparents, for that matter!).
Today was her check-up with Dr. Campbell, and we learned that she's in the 90th percentile for height (24.5") and 50th percentile for weight (11lbs 10oz). Looks like she'll be a tall lad, just like Kyle (tallest kid in his middle school classes...not that it lasted). We wonder if she'll choose volleyball or cross country with that long, lean body :)
Adeline will kick her boo-tay at softball! :) Can't wait to see her again and maybe a fall session with your family where she will be sitting and maybe standing...I can picture it now!
